Terms of service

The rules of the road for using Salary Freedom — both the free product and the paid API. Written to be readable, not lawyered.

Last updated · May 28, 2026

1. Acceptance

By using Salary Freedom (the website at salaryfreedom.com or the paid API), you agree to these terms and to the Privacy notice. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

2. Who we are

Salary Freedom is operated by Axiom Industrial Software ("we", "us"). The service is currently US-only and prices are in US dollars. We do not warrant that the service is available, lawful, or appropriate for use outside the United States.

3. The free product

Anyone can search the aggregated dataset and submit their own salary anonymously, without an account. The free product is provided as-is, with no service-level commitment.

When you submit a salary, you represent that:

  • The compensation figures describe your own employment, or compensation you have a reasonable basis to know about.
  • The submission does not contain anyone else's personally identifying information.
  • You are not submitting information you are contractually prohibited from sharing (e.g., under an NDA that explicitly covers compensation).

Salary Freedom is not legal, employment, or financial advice. Compensation context varies enormously by employer, team, level, and individual negotiation; treat aggregates as a reference point, not as a target.

4. The aggregated dataset

The dataset is built from anonymous submissions and is provided without warranty as to accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose. Aggregates are only shown when at least five matching submissions back them; see the Privacy notice for the technical detail.

5. The paid API

Programmatic access is sold as a tiered subscription. Each tier has a monthly call quota that is enforced server-side; exceeding your quota returns a quota-error response until the next billing period or until you upgrade. Pricing and quota are published on the dashboard at sign-up and may change with notice for future billing periods.

Billing is handled by Stripe. By subscribing you also accept Stripe's terms for payment processing. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel; you can cancel anytime from the billing page.

We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the API response data for your own products and analyses while your subscription is in good standing. You may not:

  • Use the API to attempt to re-identify any individual submitter, or to combine API responses with external data sets for the purpose of re-identification.
  • Resell or redistribute the raw API responses as a substitute for the API itself.
  • Circumvent rate limits, quotas, or authentication — for example, by sharing keys across accounts, rotating throwaway accounts, or scraping the public search UI in lieu of the API.

6. Account security

If you sign up for the paid API, you are responsible for safeguarding your sign-in email and your API keys. Treat API keys as secrets — embedding them in client-side code makes them retrievable by anyone who loads the page. If a key is exposed, revoke it from the dashboard immediately.

7. Suspension and termination

We may revoke individual API keys or suspend an account if we detect abuse, attempted re-identification, quota circumvention, or activity that risks the integrity of the dataset. Where possible we contact the account first.

You can terminate your account at any time by canceling your subscription and contacting us via the support form; we will revoke your keys and delete the customer record (Stripe retention rules apply to the Stripe customer object).

8. Intellectual property

Salary Freedom, including the brand, the code that powers the service, and the aggregated dataset, is owned by Axiom Industrial Software. The license above covers API responses; everything else is not licensed by these terms.

9. Disclaimer

The service is provided as-is and as-available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Compensation decisions you make based on aggregated data are your own.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, or data, arising out of or related to your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to the service is limited to the amount you have paid us for the API in the twelve months preceding the claim; if you have paid us nothing, our liability is limited to US $100.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Axiom Industrial Software harmless from any claim arising out of your submissions, your use of the API in violation of these terms, or your violation of any third-party right (including any NDA you may have agreed to).

12. Changes

We may update these terms when the product changes. Material changes will be surfaced before they take effect and the Last updated date at the top is bumped. Continued use after the effective date counts as acceptance.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The exclusive venue for any dispute is the state or federal courts located in Delaware.
