What Anonymous Salary Submissions Tell Us About Pay in 2026

Why anonymous, k-anonymized salary data tells you more about your real market value than employer-reported averages or paywalled job-board estimates.

Most salary data online comes from one of three sources: employers reporting wages to the government (BLS), companies disclosing ranges in job postings, or workers self-reporting on platforms that ask for an email. Each has a real weakness. Government data lags by 12-18 months. Job-posting ranges are aspirational. Email-gated platforms attract a self-selected slice.

We built Salary Freedom to fill the gap: anonymous submissions, no email, no account, no tracking. The trade-off is that we need a meaningful number of submissions in any slice before we can show a statistic. Here is what the dataset is showing so far.

Why anonymity changes who submits

When the cost of submitting is "give us your email and we will spam you forever," the people who agree are usually the ones who get something back — typically tech workers chasing comparison data. When the cost is "type your numbers and hit submit," the audience widens. Trades, healthcare workers, teachers, retail managers — the roles underserved by every gated platform.

The k = 5 floor

Every public number on this site is backed by at least five anonymous submissions for the same slice. Search a slice that has fewer records and you get an honest "insufficient data" rather than an invented median. It prevents anyone from being re-identified out of a small sample, and it stops the dataset from confidently lying when it does not yet know.
